Creatures

While the world is full of plenty of life that mirrors aspects of the modern earth, wilaks, of course, cannot be the only magical creature that reside in the sectors. There are five well-known creatures that roam the lands, sky, and seas.
Scapers (scay-pers)
These strange give off a faint glow and leave a whispy tail of magic when they move. They appear when the sun sets and disappear when the sun rises and become most active during these small frames of time. Though most prominent in sector seven and the borders of the uninhabited, they can be found in any sector under the moonlight. Scapers have been traced back to ancient wilak whispers as a widely feared and dangerous phenomena. To the unsuspecting wilak, they are fatal. If bothered, a scaper will turn black and possess a target by forcefully entering through the mouth. Any wilak possessed by a scaper becomes a very aggressive puppet that attacks anything that moves- save for other scapers. The scaper will only release a wilak when the sunlight hits their pelt, leaving the host to die of exhaustion. Luckily, scapers can be avoided with some precautionary steps. Observations reveal that they hang low to the ground and do not fly much higher than a few taillengths. They cannot pass through solid objects or appear in places that are lit up with torches (though if nothing stops them from entering these areas, they do not appear disturbed by normal torchlight). The only effective item that wards off these dangerous creatures are scaper lanterns. The special encasement that these lanterns are made of are able to contain a single scaper with no danger to the holder. While trapped scapers remain a docile purple, if sunlight hits the lantern or other scapers roam nearby, the confined scaper will turn black and start to frantically move. Wilaks theorize this is what keeps the wild scapers at bay. These rare artifacts, however, are limited to important personnel and are very hard to obtain. Trying to contain a scaper in a different container will result in failure and death. The origin of the scaper is unknown, though many myths and rumors exist about them. The most popular story is that scapers are spirits of the dead being punished by the god Lupus.
Ansteen (Ann-steen)
This small quadrupedal species finds itself primarily in sectors seven and five, but it can be found in small populations in the other sectors as well. It scampers about catching insects and creating small burrows with its large and powerful claws. The most peculiar trait of this little creature is the little bobbles found fanned along its spine and wrapped around its legs. These opaque, squishy sacs are actually the fat stores of the animal. Due to this feature and its small size, wilaks quickly snatched up this animal as prey- causing it to become incredibly timid. Burrows can be raided during the seasons of bloom and color, where live young can be snatched for a quick snack.
Flaufot (flah-fut)
At almost the same height as a wilak, this bipedal reptile is surprisingly friendly to its furry counterparts. It shows no fear of wilaks unless outward aggression is shown to it. These animals have a very mischievous personality. Flaufots are strictly foragers and will seek out and destroy crops if they can get to them. The extra set of limbs it carries helps it gather enough food to be an excellent caretaker to the young hatchlings it bears, often in clutches of four to six. It appears in every sector habited by wilaks, coming in a remarkable range of colors and hues. Their skin is usually a pale or dull shade with the crown of leaf-like extensions sporting brighter variations of its base color. Occasionally, flaufots who have become companions to wilaks can be seen around the kingdoms.
Rasteon (Rass-tee-on)
A giant beast resides in the depths of the ocean. A carnivore of large prey, the Rasteon ignores pesky wilaks that are only a sixth of its size. Its sheer mass is used for whale hunting, which typically migrate annually near the bay of sector four during the frost season. Adult rasteon are found only in the sea, but it produces slimy, amphibian eggs that appear in any shallow pool of water in the sectors during the season of fire. As long as a flowing body of water is nearby, these tiny spawn crawl around the sectors freely until they fully develop a tail and can find their way to the depths of the oceans. What prevents the tiny organisms from growing legs and remaining on land is unknown, but the ansteen sure do have a lot of fun when the rasteon start hatching.
Qaimark (Qway-mark)
This aerial being only appears where there is bare ground and easy pickings. It flies under the cover of night, often in coordination with scapers. With its wingspan the same length of a wilak (nose to tail), it will feast on exposed kits who are left alone. Wilaks are advised to watch their young very carefully. While the qaimark lacks physical strength, the vapor it produces creates a sleep-inducing feeling within those who inhale it. Where it roosts is a mystery. Though just from appearance itself, rumors take it as the same origin of the scaper- hostility included.
